Winter can be a tough time for tennis players. Cold weather, shorter days, and potentially icy or wet courts can make it difficult to keep up with your training, and players can get demoralised quickly. However, with the right mindset and some adjustments to your routine, you can maintain your skills and even improve during the winter months. Here are some tips for staying sharp on the tennis court during the winter season.

Keep positive

It’s important to realize that keeping supple, fit and sharp will give you an edge going into the season ahead. Embrace the seasons and don’t get down about the fact that the weather is turning colder. If you can keep positive, keep training and keep hitting balls then you’ll come out of the winter as a stronger player than any fellow clubmates who have not bothered to do much over winter at all.

Dress in layers

One of the keys to staying comfortable and performing your best during winter tennis training is to dress in layers. This will help you regulate your body temperature and stay warm without overheating.

Start with a base layer of moisture-wicking material to keep your skin dry (merino wool is awesome for this).

Add a middle layer of insulation, like a fleece or thermal top, to trap heat and provide warmth.

Finally, top it off with a water/wind-resistant outer layer to protect against the elements if you are planning on being outside in very cold or wet conditions.

Don’t forget about your head and feet. These areas are where much of your body heat will be lost, especially when standing around in-between activities, so it’s important to keep them covered and warm. Wear a hat or headband to cover your ears (wind chill can be vicious on ears!) For your feet, wear moisture-wicking socks.

Don’t wear gloves when holding your racket, unless it’s ridiculously cold in which case I’d suggest that you should be playing/training inside anyway. If you wear gloves when playing you’ll not get the right feel, and could end up developing bad habits or slight tweaks in your playing that could be hard to remove in the warmer months.

Be prepared to adjust your clothing as needed. The key to staying comfortable while playing tennis in the winter is to dress in those layers that you can easily add or remove as needed. As I’ve said, start with a base layer and a middle layer, and bring an extra outer layer that you can put on if it gets cold. Be aware of your heat levels and be prepared to adjust your clothing as you go to maintain a comfortable body temperature.

Warm up properly

Warming up is even more important in the winter than in warmer seasons. Cold muscles are more susceptible to injury, so take the time to properly prepare your body for exercise. Start with a few minutes of light cardiovascular activity, like jogging or jumping jacks, to get your blood flowing. Then move on to dynamic stretches, like arm circles and leg swings, to loosen up your muscles. Finally, hit a few balls against a wall or with a partner to get a feel for playing and start to elevate your heart rate.

Take advantage of indoor facilities

If the weather outside is truly frightful, don’t let it keep you from getting your training indoors. Many tennis clubs and facilities have indoor courts that can provide a more controlled environment for practicing and playing. Not only will these courts be free of snow and ice, but they’ll also likely be heated too. Playing indoors can help you focus more on technique and strategy, since you won’t have to deal with battling the elements or additional clothing.

Adjust your expectations

While it’s important to maintain your training routine during the winter, it’s also important to be realistic about what you can accomplish in less-than-ideal conditions. Don’t expect to hit the same number of balls or run the same number of laps as you would in the summer. Instead, focus on quality over quantity and concentrate on the specific skills and techniques that you want to improve. By setting more modest goals and being patient with yourself, you’ll be able to make progress without overdoing it or risking injury.

Video yourself

Video playback can be a helpful tool for tennis players of all skill levels, at any time of year but they can be especially valuable during the winter months when it’s harder to get outside and practice. Consider using a tennis ball machine to work on your footwork and shot-making abilities, and video yourself while you do it if you can.

I highly recommend making use of the camera on your smartphone together with a tripod to video yourself. You can then pause, slow down the footage, break down your technique and identify areas for improvement. You’ll want a tripod that is compact and easy to carry around, but one that can also elevate your phone nicely to the best height for observing your moves. I’ve tried a few and I highly recommend this tripod (available from Amazon).

Mix up your training routine

Focus on your footwork and agility. During the winter months, the courts may be slick and slippery, so it’s important to work on your footwork and agility to maintain your balance and movement on the court.

Practice your serves indoors. If you can’t get to an outdoor court, you can still work on your serve by practicing indoors. Set up a net in a large, open space and focus on getting the ball over the net consistently.

Use a ball machine. A ball machine can be a useful tool for practicing your shots and footwork during the winter. Set up the machine to simulate different types of shots and try to hit the balls consistently.

Work on your mental game. In addition to physical training, it’s also important to work on your mental game during the winter months. Use visualization techniques to imagine yourself playing on the court, and try to stay focused and mentally sharp.

Stay warm and comfortable. Finally, make sure you dress warmly and comfortably for your winter training sessions. Wear tactical layers of clothing (as described above) to stay warm and prevent injury.

I hope these tips are helpful for your winter training!

They are invaluable pieces of advice that can assist you in your quest to play better tennis. One of the great aspects of tennis is that it requires a lot of strategy and mental toughness in order to be successful on a consistent basis. In other words, you have to use your brain to win. There is far more to the sport than just hitting the ball as hard and deep as you can. That explains part of the sport’s appeal.

However, that mental aspect also can discourage many a player. Players with lots of physical talent sometimes underachieve due to problems with their approach, mental hang-ups that hold them back, a lack of confidence in their game and ability to win. This occurs even at the highest levels of the sport. Many times you will see a player who has long had the physical ability to be a top-10 player “break through” when “he gets his mind right.”

Tips on Playing Tennis Focus on All Parts of the Game

Often, that has a lot to do with maturity as the player gains a serenity based on renewed confidence in his skills. Do you need proof of this phenomenon? Watch how many double faults are hit at crucial times by a player who is known to be weak mentally, especially on the women’s side. You’ll realize right away that a player’s mental approach has a huge impact on the physical game, perhaps more in tennis than in many other sports.

Part of the reason for that is that tennis is a technique sport. That is to say that the mechanics of the sport must be mastered and become very finely tuned. Tennis is not a sport of brute strength or speed. As a technique sport, tennis is prone to more breakdowns when the mental fitness of a player is not up to par.

Tennis can also be a very lonely sport as you are out on the court by yourself, having a bad day mentally and getting pummeled because of it. It is not a good feeling. To help you avoid such days, here are some tips on playing tennis that will improve the vital mental portion of the game.

Tips on Playing Tennis #1: “Only the Ball” –

A handy phrase that has helped many players has been “only the ball.” This forces you to focus on what counts—hitting the ball correctly and solidly.

If you’re upset, angry, nervous or distracted, try to repeat this phrase to squelch any negative thoughts and put your attention where it needs to be. This can be especially helpful when you are losing.

If you are in a tailspin in the course of a match, concentrate solely on hitting the ball on the sweet spot. Many times, you will begin to prolong rallies and win many of them.

“Only the ball” can get you right back into the match.

Hitting the ball hard also reminds you of the fun of playing tennis, the joy of a well-struck shot. If your opponent continues to play out of hihe or sher mind, hats off to him/her. For your part, you should concentrate on hitting the ball on the sweet spot of your racquet. Many times, the rest takes care of itself. This is one of the best tips on playing tennis.

Tips on Playing Tennis #2: Take A Vacation Off the Court, Not On Court! –

One of the key times in the course of a game when players take a mental vacation is during the return of serve. Ask any top player and he or she will tell you that this is true. If it plagues the pros, it can sidetrack us amateurs as well. If the person serving takes a lot of time to get set, has a high toss, etc., it can be even more tempting to zone out. Here are a few pointers on keeping your mind in the game:

a) While the server is getting set, focus on something that does not distract you from the task at hand, such as your strings or your rocking back and forth to maintain your balance.

b) As the ball is tossed, try to watch it out of the server’s hand and say to yourself, “baaaallll.” Again, you are placing your focus on where it needs to be–the ball!

c) you might want to continue your monologue with “hit” as the ball is struck and “bounce” when the ball bounces on your side, then “hit” when you return it. Another couple of ideas that can help with single-mindedness on the return of serve are to tell yourself how important the point is and think through a couple of options for your return.

Do not think of 10 options, though, because by the time you are done weighing them all, the ball will be past you. Say to yourself, “Let’s try to put this one deep to the backhand,” then try to execute that shot in a slow, controlled motion.

Tips on Playing Tennis #3: Work on Proper Shot Execution-

Throughout any match, there has to be a balance between plan and execution, analysis and crunching the ball. Too much plan leads to distraction and weak strokes. Not enough plan leads to hitting the ball randomly and often becoming the victim of your foe’s plan. If you hit a totally unforced error, take a deep breath and think about what you did wrong: did you rush the shot? did you take your eye off the ball? was your backswing too short? your follow-through non-existent?

Tips on Playing Tennis #4: Avoid Dwelling on Past Mistakes-

Once you have an idea of what malfunctioned, say, “I won’t do that again.” Try to hit the same shot again as soon as possible.

For example, if you blow an easy volley, go to the net soon after and hit another volley, this time with control and force. That will help you to erase the mistake and you will have a nice piece of auto-correction.

Don’t dwell on your mistakes; correct them as soon as possible and move on. The absolute worst thing to say is, “I can’t hit a backhand today.”

That resigns you to blowing many backhands for the rest of the match and having an illogical excuse to fall back on.

Tips on Playing Tennis #5: Be Prepared to Change Your Game Plan-

One of the other key tennis playing tips is to go into the match with a versatile approach. Experts say that a key factor in psychological health is the belief that you are empowered to choose different courses of action to address a problem. That problem might be falling behind in a match to an opponent who seems to be playing spectacularly. Guess what? You need to move to plan B. If hitting deep to the backhand and rushing to the net is resulting in a majority of lost points, stay back and work from the baseline or try to lure him or her up to the net, etc. Develop the mental ability to switch course in the midst of a match.

Learn to hit to every part of the court with a variety of spins. As you try variations of plan B, you might discover that your adversary has a huge problem hitting slices to the forehand side. Ahh! Plan D worked! Now you can keep on slicing to that forehand and get back into the match. You can also try variations on your serve to bother your opponent. You have lots of control over that as well. Vary your spins, speeds and placement to steal some games on your serve and get back into the match.

Tips on Playing Tennis #6: Use Positive Body Language-

One of the sometimes-neglected tips on playing tennis is the importance of body language—it is huge in tennis.

It sends unmistakable messages to your opponent and seems to communicate one to yourself, too. Your mind sometimes follows your body at this point. When you look alert, energetic, happy and confident, you can often play that way.

When you curse at yourself, have your head down and your shoulders stooped, your opponent often says, “I’ve got him now.” In another scenario, if your opponent is known to choke, your winning look might push him/her over the edge, especially if the match is close.

Think about your body language throughout the match.

Tips on Playing Tennis #7: Avoid Obscenities-

Sure, you will occasionally let out an expletive after a bad shot, but if your demeanor is constantly negative, it probably is not helping you to win.

Within the bounds of good sportsmanship, celebrate your good shots every now and then, try to have fun and project peacefulness and confidence as you play. Some players perform better when angry, and you might need that motivator, but don’t let it veer into negativity.

With these tips on playing tennis in your mental toolkit, you should be better equipped to not only be more competitive in your club’s next tournament, but to enjoy the sport more. Sports should be fun, not a burden. Don’t forget to have a good time when you play tennis, win or lose. Don’t find your identity in your ranking; simply do all you can in the time that you have to improve it. By following these tips on playing tennis, you will have a better mental approach so that you can maximize your physical abilities and be the best that you can be on the court.

A tennis volley is hit before the ball bounces on the ground. Tennis volley shots are normally hit when the players are at the net or near the net. Although it is also possible to hit this shot near the baseline. However, volleying away from the net is seldom used or is only used in certain circumstances.

The main objective of a tennis volley is to surprise your opponent since this shot limits your opponent’s reaction time. Thus it is considered as an offensive shot. A tennis volley shot also minimizes the bad bounce effect especially on grass and clay courts. In addition, playing a volley (especially if you stand near the net) gives you a wide array of angled shot choices which can be very difficult for your opponent to return. If your opponent does return the ball, normally it is a weak one.

To be a successful volleyer you need to have quick reflexes and you need to have perfect hand-eye coordination. Below are some tennis volley tips for players seeking to improve the forehand and backhand volley.

Tennis Volley Grip Tips

The Continental grip is the most commonly used grip by professional tennis players. This grip can be used both in a forehand volley and in a backhand volley. This means that you don’t have to change your grip if you use a forehand and a backhand volley alternately. This makes this grip more popular than the other grips.

Some players use the Eastern forehand grip to hit a forehand volley, but the disadvantage of this tennis volley grip is the fact that if you want to hit a backhand volley stroke in your next shot, you need to change your grip to a continental grip. This can be very confusing and time consuming especially for beginners.

Tennis Volley Preparation Tips

Tennis Volleys are normally played on the net, thus its shot preparation is basically shorter compared to other shots such as groundstrokes. This makes an appropriate tennis volley preparation crucial. Late preparation can lead to a rushed shot resulting to poor executions. One of the most important tennis volley tips is to be well prepared by anticipating your opponent’s shots. Another tennis volley preparation tip is to limit your opponent’s shot choices or options so that you can react to the ball quickly. Instead of giving your opponent 5-6 shot options, limits it to 2-3 options.

There are some ways and means for you to be able to anticipate your opponent’s shots. The first thing your can do is look into and analyze your opponent’s tendencies and patterns. You can also study hints from your opponents through his or her shots or strokes.

Another tennis volley tip to anticipate your opponent’s shot is for you to develop or improve your correct perception of the ball’s path and spin. And lastly is to anticipate your opponent’s shot based on his or her court position.

Anticipation in a Tennis Volley

Aside from anticipating your opponent’s shots, a quick response time span is also vital for a tennis volley. Developing this skill gives you a big advantage at the net considering how quick and fast tennis volley exchanges are. This skill is more vital in tennis doubles matches considering the frequency of tennis volleys in a doubles tennis match. But it is also of equal importance in a singles match especially if your opponent is a good net player.

A quick and fast response time involves your reaction time and your execution time. Your reaction can be explained as the time spend by your brain to process your opponent actions or shots made and channel that massage to your motor for the type of shots to prepare. On one hand, your execution time means the time you spend to execute the appropriate return of your opponent’s shot.

Most skilled players’ average reaction time (from the point the ball is released to the start of racket movement) is between 226 milliseconds for forehand volley and 205 ms for backhand volley. One way to improve your reaction and execution time is to do a split step. Some tennis volley tips on how to properly time your split step is explained below.

Tennis Volley Footwork Preparation Tips

There are several ways to practice the proper tennis volley footwork preparation. Another essential tennis volley tip is to perform a timely split step and focus your balance as early as possible. For best results, you have to execute the split step as soon as your opponent makes contact with the ball. This is for you to establish your base of support.

In fact, most professional players are able to execute their split step in such a way that the execution is perfectly timed just after the opponent’s ball contact. The split step is also important for you to be able to move quickly and react to your opponents return flawlessly. A timely split step also gives you the proper balance your need to execute your return properly. In this type of footwork preparation, timing is essential.

Dynamic Tennis Volley Footwork Practice

Regular practice on tennis volley tips is necessary for beginners and amateur players to achieve the perfect split step timing. Being able to execute a well timed split step allows you to move to the net quickly and at the same time hit the proper return. The split step is the most important footwork preparation in tennis volley shots.

Tennis Volley Technique

These tennis volley tips show the importance of proper technique on your tennis volley. Most tennis volleys are hit with the use of a short racket swing. This abbreviated racket swing can be done by just bringing the racket back without taking a backswing. This technique is best to use when you are on the service line while executing your tennis volleys.

The second tennis volley tip is to keep your tennis volleys compact. The racket arm should not go past your shoulder point. To be able to produce enough power on your tennis volley, a perfect weight transfer should also be accomplished.

Proper weight transfer also varies between a low volley and a high tennis volley shot. In a low volley shot, the weight transfer should happen before contact while in a high volley shot, weight transfer should happen during contact. This weight transfer signifies your timely weight transfer from your back foot to your front foot.

Tennis Volley Contact Tips

These volley tennis tips put more emphasis on the position of your racket head during the contact. At contact, the racket face must be in a slightly open position. This means that the racket face that comes in contact with the ball must be slightly facing upwards or towards the sky. This racket face position at contact can be used either in a forehand or in a backhand volley. This position is a commonality amongst all world class volleys.

A common problem among club players is late reaction time. This causes their racket face to be positioned is a “dish” manner (racket face facing upwards fully).

Most tennis training tips focus on the physical tennis fitness part of the game. But these tennis training tips are for the mental and emotional side of the game too.

A great tennis athlete trains not only for the fitness element, but they focus on the intangibles such as the mental game, tennis nutrition, technical strokes development and much more.

Whether you play competitively or just for exercise, the game of tennis is always a lot more enjoyable if you are able to play it well. Improving as a tennis player encompasses many aspects of the game that all need to be developed together in order for you to become the best tennis player you can possibly be.

Tennis Training Tips: The Mental Game

Every sport has a physical and a mental side. Tennis, being the individual sport that it is, requires equal attention to both parts. There are no teammates to help you out when you’re physically or mentally tired. Therefore, the first and foremost tennis training tip would be to develop both your physical ability on court and your general psychological approach to the game.

Tennis Training Tips: The Tennis Fitness

The physical side of tennis covers your technical competence and your fitness. The technical aspect pertains to mainly to your strokes. Tennis training tip number two would be: develop your strokes. This is the most obvious part of anyone’s development as a player.

The correct techniques and execution of the various shots is the foundation on which any tennis player must build upon the rest of his or her game.

There is simply no other way to perfect these strokes other than to spend time out on the practice court. Former world number one Monica Seles was known to practice a particular shot for a whole week (for example, a backhand down the line) in order to perfect it before going on to another shot. Although each shot is different, there are some common guidelines:

(1) watch the ball;

(2) prepare early;

(3) hit the ball at the right comfortable distance in front of your body;

(4) follow through; and

(5) maintain balance throughout.

Tennis Training Tips: Technique and Tennis Strokes

The technical facet also covers your movement, especially your footwork. Obviously, this goes hand in hand with the proper techniques of striking the ball because you cannot execute a stroke correctly without being in balance.

Arriving at the ball with good balance requires that you have taken the right steps with your feet in order to get there.

Tennis training tip number three would be: improve your footwork. This is done by incorporating footwork drills along with your practice sessions. The best footwork drills should emphasize three things: (1) lateral movement; (2) forward and backward movement; and (3) the ability to recover back to the ready position.

Technical development is the most fundamental thing towards becoming a tennis player. But any person cannot just go participating in any sport or physical activity without being physically fit to begin with.

In fact, everybody should consult a physician first before starting an exercise program or new physical activity such as tennis. A doctor will evaluate his or her overall capacity for activity and exercise prior to actual participation in a fitness program or a sport like tennis. Fitness for tennis requires a combination of strength, stamina and speed.

Tennis Training Tip #1: Tennis Fitness Strength Training

Tennis training tip number three would be: improvement of strength. Strength training in tennis is unique because it emphasizes not just muscle power. There has to be strength throughout the entire range of motion.

Therefore, flexibility and proper stretching is required along with strength training. Also, tennis is a sport that utilizes some muscle groups more than others.

These muscle groups have to be worked out and kept elastic at the same time to prevent injuries and make stroke production more smooth and efficient.

These areas include the wrist, forearm, elbow, shoulder, abdominals, hips, legs and calves. However, concentrating on just these muscle groups will lead to an overall imbalance in physical strength. This could lead to deterioration in posture and balance. Therefore, a strength training program must keep all the major muscle groups in condition, not just in terms of strength but also flexibility.

For example, a right handed player might work out on his right arm and shoulder more than on his left side, thinking that there is no benefit in exercising the non-dominant side. But working only on the right side will cause an imbalance in strength which results in uneven posture and possible deterioration of critical parts of the musculoskeletal system like the spine, which would then lead to a host of other health problems including derangements in neurological and circulatory function. The back is also a frequently neglected area for tennis players.

A strong back will help in protecting the spine which is constantly subject to twisting and bending.

Tennis Training Tip #2: Training for Stamina

To win a tennis match, sometimes you just need to outlast your opponent. This is especially true for players who are of very similar ability and skill level. Stamina becomes a critical factor. The next tennis training tip then is: improve endurance.

The most basic way to work on this is to increase aerobic resistance by doing activities like long distance running or swimming.

However, endurance in tennis is vastly different from other aerobic sports like running, cycling or cross country skiing.

Tennis actually emphasizes anaerobic resistance because it is a sport where there are short bursts of physical exertion followed by periods of rest. Furthermore, each point in tennis can be entirely different from the next point.

There could be a 3-stroke rally followed by a 10 stroke rally where you run all over the court and a 50 stroke rally where you are mostly hitting steadily from a particular position. You have to be prepared for different kinds of points.

Tennis Training Tip #3: Training for Agility

The ability to run down every ball, recover for the next shot and the quickness in getting to a strong attacking position on court all depend on the development of speed and agility. Speed is defined by how fast a player can move from one place to another. Agility is how quickly he or she can change directions or speeds. The fifth tennis training tip is to improve these two fitness components.

Speed can be increased through running sprints. Agility is best improved with shuttle runs and footwork drills. It is also advisable to engage in sets of exercises or drills that develop both of these components. Additionally, exercises for speed and agility can and should be done in sets in order to improve stamina as well.

Tennis Training Tip #4: Proper Tennis Diet

The sixth tennis training tip is the modification of your diet. This should be tailored to suit a player’s specific metabolic and physiological profile.

Proper nutrition in tennis consists of a combination of high quality protein and complex carbohydrates. These are the core materials for developing strength and the proper fuels for endurance, respectively.

During a long match, players need to replenish energy, keep well hydrated as well as replace lost electrolytes. Energy bars, water, sports drinks and fruits like bananas are recommended. More importantly, a good tennis diet should consist of food that satisfies the individual palate as well. It is not advisable to totally cut out sweets, treats and junk food.

Rather, these should be taken in moderation or in limited portions only. All healthy food is good food for tennis. Needless to say, the daily requirements for essential vitamins and minerals should be met.

Tennis Training Tip #5: Improve Mental Tennis Toughness

The last tennis training tip relates to something that is not usually thought about in training. This aspect of the sport is called mental toughness.

Usually, people do not associate this with exercise and training because they think that it is not something that can be developed through drills and work out routines. In the literal sense they are correct.

Working out in the gym and doing footwork drills aren’t going to directly influence your mental toughness. But there are also exercises and drills for the mind, and they can be incorporated into your practice sessions.

A good way to approach this is to treat practice matches just like you would an actual match. You should practice focusing, staying in the moment, blocking out distractions and thinking about what you need to do.

Also, work on shots that you would actually use in a match in order to develop your confidence. Concentration can be developed by playing games like first-to-eleven points and the ability to handle pressure can be increased by playing tie-breakers.

Tennis Training Tip #6: Strategy and Tactics

The last tip is also about the mental aspect of the game: strategy and tactics. If you have sufficiently developed your game, you will know what your strengths and weaknesses are. Before a match, you should know who your opponent is and how he or she plays.

Take into account your own game and devise a plan that can make the most of your strengths and minimize exposure of your weaknesses while at the same time attacking your opponent’s weaknesses and limiting the effect of his or her strength. This is the time to think about depth, placement, direction, spin, pace, angle and court position.

These all sound like a lot of hard work but they are things that have been proven time and again at all levels of the game. It is all well worth the effort if you want to enjoy the sweetest reward of playing the game better and winning more.

Doubles tennis is played in the same manner in terms of scoring with singles tennis matches. However, both tennis matches differs with the court size where they are played. Doubles tennis is played in a bigger court compared to single tennis matches.

Below are some tennis tips for doubles.

Ready position

The ready position in the tennis two handed backhand is when you stand with your two feet pointing towards the net. Your two feet point towards the net and are spread from each other. The distance between the feet depends on how comfortable you are. Some players spread them wide enough but some players don’t.

Standard tennis doubles positions

Tennis doubles tips basically starts when the player is serving on the deuce side. The server has to stand near the center. Ideally, the serve should target the weakness of the receiver, which in most cases is the backhand side. If the server is serving on the ad side, it is ideal for the server to stand in a wider position (away from the center). And the reason for this is to force the receiver to return the ball with a stretched backhand or forcing the receiver to execute the slice backhand and landing the ball in the middle of the serving partner’s forehand.

At this stage, the server’s partner is positioned in the center part of the service box just in front of the receiver. With the receiver’s weak return (stretched backhand or slice), the server’s partner can attack through a quick volley or he can also move back quickly to hit an overhead shot. At this position, the server’s partner has the capacity to return a ball down the alley on her side and at the same time he can also hit an aggressive opponent’s return across the middle of the court.

The receiver’s partner on the other hand has to position himself around the service line and be ready to move to the volleying position if his partner is able to return an aggressive ball or else he has to move slightly backwards if his partner’s return is a floater.

Stay alert as server’s partner

The second tennis tip for doubles is to stay alert. Alertness and quickness are the main positive points in playing a tennis doubles match. In singles, it is black and white as when you need to hit the ball. However in doubles, sometimes you have to hit the ball successively but sometimes you have to wait for the right time to make your move.

Another tennis doubles tip is to you need to stay on your toes even if your partner is hitting the ball to avoid yourself becoming flat-footed. One way to maintain your alertness as the server’s partner, is to stand on the service line when your partner is about to serve. Then, as soon as the ball passes where you are, quickly move towards the net and execute a split-step as the receiver of the opposing team start to swing his racket.

This doubles tennis tip keeps you alert all the time but at the same time it can also create confusion to the receiver’s partner. In addition, with this doubles tactic you are also ready to hit a volley in case the receiver’s return is weak.

What to do with a aggressive return

Among tennis tips for doubles is to react properly to an aggressive return. In case the receiver’s return is powerful enough that the serving team needs to attack, the receiver and the partner should position themselves in a volley position while moving forward in the center of the service box making sure that both sides of the net are covered. If the receiver’s return hits down the line, then both the receiver and the partner should cover the down the line side of the net.

At this stage, the server’s partner is vulnerable in his volleying position (near the net as mentioned above) so he has to move a bit backward and wait for the receiver’s team return. The server has to move left to get the ball so the partner has to go in the same direction to cover the gap between them. Too large of a gap between each partner can make the team vulnerable, as the opponent will surely attack down the middle or in between you and your partner.

What to do on a weak return in a doubles tennis game

This tennis doubles tip applies when the receiver’s return is weak. If this is the case, his partner should move backwards as much as she can up to the point when the server’s team is about to make a shot. The server’s partner on one hand, should take every opportunity he finds with a weak returns of the opponent team because he is the one in position to hit a poach volley. In case the server’s partner fails to execute the volley after a weak or short return, the server himself should do the work.

Server and the partner stay back on serve

Another interesting tennis tips for doubles relates to the two back formation. This tactic involves both the server and his partner positioned at the baseline. This is done if the receiver can aggressively return serves. In this case, the server’s partner is in better position because if he stays in the volleying position, the opponent can pass down a line which can possibly force him to make an error.

The two back formation applies if a team’s weakness is their serve. This can be counteracted by both players positioned at the baseline which will allow them to use their ground strokes to win a point.

In order to counteract this serving team tactic, the receiving team should move forward once they hit an aggressive return. This situation puts them in a very good position to attack which can be considered an advantage to their team.

In the serving team’s side, this tactic should be the last resort because surely they will be at a disadvantage if both of their opponents are up at net. One way to get out of this situation is to hit a lob to force your opponent to move back near the baseline and then immediately move towards the net to put your team at a better position to hit a volley.

Receiver and partner stay back to receive

In cases when the receiver’s return serve is not aggressive enough to prevent the serving team from executing volley towards the receiver’s partner, the receiver’s partner should move back to the baseline and start the point there. If he stays near the net, the serving team will likely make a passing shot to his direction.

This doubles tennis tip applies when both of the opponents positioned on the baseline, the server should more forward quickly to join his partner at the net. Ideally the server should follow his serve in coming forward to the net.

If the receiving team get a chance to return an aggressive ball, both of them can move forward towards the net although in most cases going near the net can be very hard.

Opportunistic poach by server’s partner

One important tennis tips for doubles is the poach volley shot. Normally, the tendency of the receiver is to return the serve cross court. In this case, the server’s partner should be very observant in case the receiver decides to hit a weak cross court shot. If the receiving team returns a weak ball, the server’s partner can poach and hit the volley towards the open court. This means that the server’s partner has to cut diagonally towards his partner’s half court to hit the stroke called the “opportunistic poach”.

Before deciding on whether or not to poach, the server’s partner should be very sure to hit a winning shot. His shot should force their opponent to return a weak shot or else they will be at a vulnerable position as this movement will create an open court in his side. Although poaching can be a very good winning shot, it can also be very difficult.

In tennis doubles matches, one of the hardest things is to return the serve. And it will be harder for the receiving team if the server’s partner likes to poach.

Receiver lob: server return

A great tip for doubles in tennis is the receiver lob and server return. One tactic of the receiver is to lob the server’s partner; in this case it is better for the server to return the lob. In return, the server’s partner has to cover the space vacated by the server as fast as he could before the opponent team is ready to hit another return. Once the receiving team is sure that they have hit a good deep lob, they can immediately move forward and be ready to volley. This movement will be difficult for the server (who has to get the lob) to make a passing shot or hit a lob.

The first of our tennis tips and tricks: practice, practice, practice! This is among the most important of tennis tips and tricks . And practice with an objective; work on a specific technique (more power on your forehand, sharper volleys, variety on your serve, etc.) until mastered then work on another.

In order to make this one of our most effective tennis tips and tricks, make sure to practice with someone more experienced than your self — that is, learn technique from someone who is a better player than you.

While practicing with someone who is a better player than you, remain defensive, hitting high, soft, and down the middle on most shots — and really try to get every ball back in play. Don’t be intimidated by your opponent; keep your mind on your objective.

Tennis Tips and Tricks to Learn from Advanced Players

These tennis tips and tricks can help you learn from advanced players: record professionals playing; then watch them playing in slow motion! Concentrate on the players’ every movement, so you can gain insight into your own game. Even professionals use these tennis tips and tricks , watching recordings of each other!

An alternative tennis tips and tricks is to try teaching tennis to someone less experienced to improve your techniques. You need to really master a technique in order to teach it to someone else. And, you have to communicate the steps involved in that technique; this helps you understand the technique all the more.

Tennis Tricks and Tips for Equipment

Other tennis tips for beginners involve equipment — make sure you have the right gear! Concerning rackets, a 26″ or 27″ is the correct size for an adult. Concerning grip size, hold your racket hand out palm side up, and measure from the crease of the ring finger to the tip of the ring finger; this should be the measurement around your racket handle, generally about four inches in diameter. Follow these two tennis tips — your wrists and elbows will be glad you did!

Protect your feet and ankles by wearing proper tennis shoes — not running shoes or soccer shoes — but shoes with a herringbone tread made to withstand side-to-side movement.

Tennis Serve Tips and Tricks

Now we’ll present more tennis tips and tricks, involving skills, fundamentals, and techniques. Many players have difficulty with their serves. And, if you wish to ever play competitively, you must possess a solid, consistent serve. Here are some tennis tips and tricks that may help.

Are you serving into the net? Perhaps you are making contact with the ball too far in front of yourself. Try tossing the ball less far forward and lean in more just before the swing. Also, if you toss the ball much higher than your point of contact, it will produce a downward vector as it descends toward your racket.

Make certain that you toss the ball no more than three or four inches higher than your point of contact. And finally, put some topspin on the ball when you serve. A hard, flat serve will just barely clear the net, if at all, but a shot with topspin will clear the net with room to spare. Try implementing these tennis tips and tricks; they do work.

Are you hitting your serves hard, but way too long? This is a common problem — and here are some tennis tips and tricks that may help you resolve it. Perhaps you are making contact with the ball too low, thus decreasing the angle from your racket over the net to your target area. Hitting the ball too low also disrupts the upward whipping action that is produced at full extension.

Make contact at full extension. Or, perhaps you’re making contact with the ball too far back. Make certain that you’re not tossing the ball too far back, or that you’re not leaning too far forward before your swing and therefore hitting the ball too far back. Basically, these tennis tips and tricks help you contact the ball more in front of you and assure a lower hit.

Serve Ball Toss Tennis Tips and Tricks

What if your toss is always “off” and thus your serve is always “off”? Here are several tennis tips that may help. Do not hold the ball in your hand when you toss; hold it in your fingertips. Begin the toss in front of your legs. Toss the ball up and forward toward where you imagine your point of contact.

Do not flick the ball with your wrist as you let go; and, remember to release the ball with your hand at as high a spot as is comfortable, at least as high as your head. If there is a short distance between the release point and the contact point, there is less of a chance that the ball will go off course.

Make certain to toss the ball only as far as the height at which you’ll make contact, or a few inches higher. Higher tosses are more likely to stray, and even when they don’t, they’re more difficult to strike. Finally, reach after the ball with the arm with which you tossed it. These tennis tips should help you keep your toss on target.

Here’s the final bit of advice among the tennis tips for serving. If your opponent appears worn out after a long point, and is still catching his or her breathe, aim your next serve directly at his or her body. An opponent who is out of breathe will often make the return without taking required adjustment steps for returning a body serve.

Aiming the ball at the receiver will often thus result in a weak return that then allows you to hit an aggressive shot back. This is among the easiest of tennis tips to ensure winning an extra point.

Tennis Groundstroke Tips and Tricks

Some players have difficulty with their groundstrokes. Reminder words such as mnemonic devices for tennis may help. When using your forehand, tell yourself “palm forward”; when using your backhand, tell yourself “knuckles forward.” Reminder words will enable you to focus on the correct path for your racket!

More tennis tips and tricks: when you hit the ball, your head should at all times remain above your center of gravity, and your head at all times should stay relatively still. This provides more balance and enables you to more efficiently track the ball and recover for your next stroke. If your head moves away from your center of gravity, or does not remain still as you run toward the ball or as you swing, your strokes will no doubt suffer. Practice these tennis tips until they are ingrained.

Are you having trouble putting a solid topspin on your lobs. The following tennis tips and tricks address the issue. Firstly, set up your lob as you would a regular groundstroke. But immediately prior to contact, increase the speed of the racket head facing up. The ball will quickly travel over your opponent’s head. This is among the tennis tips you should master if you hope to play any competitive tennis.

Have you implemented the above tennis tips, but your strokes are still lacking?

Do you hit the ball late, or lack control, or struggle with placement? Here are more tennis tips that may help. Try adjusting your wrist. If you hold your wrist back as you prepare for shots, you are able to align the strings so that they contact the ball sooner. You’ll thus hit the ball much earlier, the contact point out in front of your body.

Tennis Tips and Tricks for Footwork

We’ve spent time considering tennis tips to improve your strokes; now consider tennis tips to improve your footwork. You can up your game without even stepping on the court by improving your agility and speed.

Tennis is a fast game full of quick, sudden movements. Train your footwork accordingly. Jogging will give you endurance, but you need to develop your speed. Practice sprinting short distances in various directions — as you would run on the tennis court. Sprint for 15 seconds; rest for 15 seconds; repeat. Incorporate hops and jumps — any movements that will increase your sudden speed. Train your self to run hundreds of short races rather than one long race.

Tennis tips and tricks are merely quality advice. Implement the above tennis tips until they become subconscious, and you’ll find yourself playing on an entire new level.

Tennis tips can propel a player to the next level, granted the correct tennis tips are taught and understood. It’s important to recognize that even with the the most accurate tennis tips, lots of practice time must be put in on court and even off court.

Practice with an objective; work on a specific technique (more power on your forehand, sharper volleys, variety on your serve, etc.) until mastered, then work on another. And to make this one of our most effective tennis tips, make sure to practice with someone more experienced than your self — that is, learn technique from someone who is a better player than you.

You can learn from advanced players. One way is to record professionals playing; then watch them playing in slow motion! Concentrate on the players’ every movement, you will gain much insight into your own game. Even professionals use these tennis tips, watching recordings of each other!

Tennis tips require the right amount of practice and quality repetition.

This may mean that slight adjustments have to be made to progress to the next level. Adjustments in the tennis technique of the forehand, backhand and serve, or the tennis footwork or even the tennis strategy used oncourt can be a drastic process that may be frustrating and difficult at first – but when these tennis tips are firmly ingrained into your tennis technique it will solidify the foundation like the roots of a strong tree.

Let a few tennis tips guide you. For example, reminder words — sort of mnemonic devices for tennis — may help. When using your forehand, you may choose to tell yourself, “palm forward”; when using your backhand, tell yourself “Finish High.” These tennis tips (reminder words) will enable you to focus on the correct path for your racket!

We’ve spent time considering tennis tips to improve your tennis strokes; now consider learning tennis tips to improve your footwork. You can up your game without even stepping on the court by improving your agility and speed. Tennis is a fast game full of quick, sudden movements. Train your footwork accordingly.

How a tennis player can avoid a plateau.

Understanding tennis tips is a learning process that takes time to fully develop and a player must adapt to the new changes if he or she wishes to progress to the next level. Tennis tips are not meant to be a magic pill or a secret formula, but instead it is a detailed roadmap to success. It may require that a tennis player change his or her tennis technique, or the tennis tip may be as fundamental as changing a wrong grip to the correct grip.

The tennis tips may also require a mental and emotional change in additional to the physical change that is often demanded by the tennis tip. Tennis is a game of a million factors, and in order to achieve great successes, a player must learn to master all of the elements that make up a great tennis player.

The learning process of tennis tips can be tough.

Making changes for the better is often a bumpy ride with many ups and downs. The bad habits and poor mistakes may linger on, like a annoying mosquito buzzing by your ear. The tennis tips are merely guides to what changes in your tennis game need to be made, but the change itself must come with the correct mental, emotional and physical state. It starts with the determination and the desire to make the change and fully absorb the tennis tips and tennis instruction.

Adapting to the tennis tips is not unlike forging through a maze or an obstacle course. There will be many problems and dilmenas along the way, and throughout the emotional journey, self doubt may emerge. There will also be an innate desire to revert back to old habits, habits to which a tennis player may be accustomed to, but ones that will forever limit your potential. The tennis tips themselves are rarely newfound solutions, but hints and guideposts to the right path.

Tennis tips for beginners are important to learn tennis and can be the stepping stone to reaching a higher level of play.

Tennis beginners want to know how to play tennis, but with these practical tennis tips for beginners they can take a fast track to play better tennis. Check out these tennis tips for beginners that will put a player on the right path to improve.

Tip #1 The first Tennis tip for beginner: Practice with a purpose

One of the greatest tennis tips for beginners is to practice with a purpose. No matter how much time you have to practice or what your goals are, it’s always important to practice with a purpose. As a tennis beginner, you are likely still learning the ropes of the game. The brain simply has a lot of new information to process, and it will take time for these new concepts to fully sink in. The tennis tips for beginners will require a lot of practice and hard work.

There are no shortcuts to learn how to play tennis, but instead it will require dedication and focused practice. By practicing with a purpose every time you go out on the court, not only will your mind and body become more productive, you will be able to set goals for yourself and compare your performance according to your own personal benchmarks.

This tennis tip for beginners is critical because many tennis beginners go out on the tennis court and hit tennis balls with no rhyme or reason. There may be many errors and mistakes, but they do not learn from them, therefore they continue to make the same mistakes and it then becomes a habit. Mistakes alone are not harmful, but what is harmful is failing to learn from your mistakes. Over time, these repeated mistakes will result in deepening the bad habit into muscle memory, making these bad habits even more difficult to erase in the future. The old saying is, “An old dog can’t learn new tricks,” and there is some truth to that statement. The best tennis tip I can provide to a beginner is to practice with a purpose from day 1, and this will immediately have a positive impact on your future results whatever you goal in tennis may be.

Tip #2 Keep a Journal with Tennis Tips for Beginners

A great tennis tip for beginner is to keep or a journal or log of your efforts and performance on the tennis court. This can be in the form of a personal diary or workout book. Keep track of your tennis by making periodic entries into your journal.

For example, write down what your tennis coach tells you and what you need to fix. If your tennis forehand technique needs the most work, write that down along with possible tennis tips or learning aids. Or if your tennis backhand is your weakness, perhaps you should take note of that in your journal and then also take note of some verbal cues or mental visualizations to help that backhand. As another example, if your not bending your knees enough on your serve, or you drop your tossing arm prematurely then jot that down into your workbook and follow it up with some advice and solutions to that problem, so you can learn from this and hopefully make efforts to fix these problems on the practice court the next time.

This tennis tip for beginner is especially important and can be a great guide to your future successes. When I was a tennis beginner, I would keep a journal just like the one I described. Since I was not able to afford tennis lessons from a coach for more than once per week, I knew I needed to make every session very productive. I started to keep a workbook and I would log my day to day tennis progress inside my journal. I would write how I felt that day, what type of fitness or running I did, ongoing problems with my tennis technique and small fixes I needed to make on the forehand, backhand and serve. I also made note of any particular milestones I made with my tennis strokes. In addition, I would write down the tennis tips I received from my tennis coach or any tennis instruction I found helpful around me. These tennis tips for beginners will be an invaluable resource.

Eventually, my tennis journal began to pile up with entries and it was a virtual log book of tennis tips for beginners. Whenever I needed to reference a tennis tip for beginner, I would always look back and view my tennis journal as an encyclopedia. The journal turned out to be a perfect resource for me and it helped fuel my limited practice sessions on court with a tennis coach.

Tip #3 A Tennis tip for beginner, One Must Take Step by Step Progressions

These tennis tips for beginners are extremely important if he or she wishes to advance to play better tennis. As a tennis beginner, it is important to take step by step progressions on any new concept. Think of it as planting a foundation, and then adding building blocks to each new level. The foundation will be your tennis technique, tennis footwork, tennis strategy and mental tennis. Each of these areas must be learned to in order to improve, but a tennis beginner must learn these areas starting from the basic concepts.

As soon as the tennis beginner masters the basic concepts of each of the above areas, then they may progress to more advanced elements. Don’t add chocolate and vanilla until you have the plain vanilla. For example, on the tennis forehand a player must learn the basic elements of the tennis stroke – getting sideways, stepping in and completing a full follow through before they can learn the advanced elements of the pros.

Tip #4 Be prepared for adversity

As much as tennis tips for beginners can help, learning the game of tennis is a time consuming process with no one way escalator. It will take lots of practice time to fix the various bad habits as well as the tennis technique, these issues can take a large amount of time before they can be mastered. Its best to learn the correct technique from the first day and seek advice from a knowledgeable tennis coach so that person can direct you to the correct methods sooner, before you develop any poor habits that can restrain your progress in the long run.

Tip #5 Learning Process Tennis Tip for a beginner

View mistakes as part of the learning process of tennis rather than become frustrated or avoidant over the mistakes. Mistakes are results that tell you that there is additional practice needed. As a tennis beginner, you will make many mistakes, but learn to embrace your mistakes as they are simply feedback as to what you are doing incorrectly. Tennis players that avoid making mistakes will never learn to fix them and gain the valuable experience learned from making the mistakes.

Be less judgmental about mistakes and rather than fret over your mistakes, seek a solution. If a particular tennis stroke is giving you trouble, look for solutions to the problem. Once you are aware of your mistakes, be certain to work to fix these mistakes on the tennis court. Whether these mistakes are in your tennis technique, tennis footwork, strategy or in your mental game be sure to become aware of your mistakes and work on never making repeated mistakes.

This tennis tip for a beginner is possibly the most important of all. Mistakes can only be corrected through the correct mentality and is a part of the game of tennis and life. There is no better teacher than your own mistakes and lessons learned from the mistakes made. Once you learn from your mistakes, work on improving them and eventually never make them again.

The purpose behind tennis serve training is to improve the tennis serve so that it becomes a dependable weapon under pressure.

The serve is widely regarded as the most important shot in tennis because it is the shot that begins every single point. If you have a good serve, you put pressure on your opponent to try to hold on to his or her service games because of the intimidation factor that your serve will pose.

If you are serving well, chances are, the rest of your game will also fall into place nicely. The serve is definitely a confidence building shot. With all these in mind, it becomes clear why you have to do tennis serve training.

The good thing is that the serve one shot in tennis that you can practice completely all by yourself. There is no need for any elaborate drill to get better doing this shot. In fact, the most basic and useful tennis serve training method is to take a basket with about 100 balls, get up on the baseline and practice serving over and over again. It has been widely recommended that you should do this every day.

The endurance of your serving muscles will also be developed this way. You should have the ability to serve just as hard at the end of a 3 hour match as you did in the first few minutes of the match.

Basic Tennis Serve Training Tips

Ideally, you should be practicing all kinds of serves. You should practice the flat, kick, twist and slice serve from both the deuce court and the ad court. You must also vary your placement to all areas of the service boxes.

Try to hit out wide by aiming up the side line, to the corners and to an approximate position that would theoretically jam the receiver. To facilitate your placement, you can use targets like cans of balls, cones or towels.

Tennis Serve Training on Technique

Use your tennis serve training sessions to remember the correct way of hitting each type of serve. All serves use the entire body from the feet all the way up to the wrist. The main differences among the different serves are the toss and the way you hit the ball. As such, you should practice tossing the ball to the right position for each type of serve.

To review, the toss for a flat serve is out in front. The toss for the slice serve is also out in front but slightly to the right for right handers. The toss for the kick or twist serve is above the head and slightly to the left for right handers.

In the flat serve, the ball is hit squarely from behind. In the slice serve, the strings brush down and around the right side of the ball. In the kick and twist serve, the strings brush up behind the ball and from left to right.

Tennis Serve Training on the Toss

Remind yourself constantly not to hit the ball on an errant toss because this leads to errors in form and technique. For example, if you are practicing a flat serve and your toss goes over your head, you will not get the proper forward momentum to hit the ball powerfully.

If you still proceed to hit this toss, you will end up with an uncoordinated motion that produces a serve lacking in power. Your body might remember this motion and you might have a tendency to do this even in a match.

Whenever you practice your serve, keep in mind a few tips so that once you play an actual match, you will be automatically applying these lessons. First, you should keep your arm loose and relaxed. Do not grip the racket too tightly.

Tennis Serve Training: Relaxation & Reducing Tension

Second, think about hitting fast instead of hard. The word ‘hard’ is associated with tension and effort. A really good serve should produce effortless power due to correct mechanics instead of brute muscle strength.

Third, inhale as you wind up and exhale as you hit the ball. This also helps in relaxing the arm muscles during the forward swing phase of the stroke. Fourth, keep your head up with your eyes focused on the ball.

Tennis Serve Training: Keeping a Stable Head Position

Do not pull your head down too soon and look at your target. Fifth, use a strong upward leg drive to launch up to the ball. Do not think about how high you should be jumping up at the ball. It should become an automatic part of your motion. Sixth, rotate as quickly as you can during the uncoiling phase of your motion. Seventh, try to maintain maximum racket head speed even after contact.

Tennis Serve Training to Increase Speed

If you want to increase your serve speed, you can add these drills as part of your tennis serve training. Firstly, it must be mentioned that the mind sometimes forms a barrier to hitting the ball hard.

You are afraid to hit the ball hard in a match because you think that the ball will go out and you will lose the point. In order to let go of this inhibition, try hitting a serve all the way to the back fence of the opposite court.

Adjusting your target will get your body more accustomed to using a faster and more powerful motion. Once you are able to hit this target, adjust accordingly so that you are aiming for the service boxes again. However, try as much as possible to keep using the same racket head speed.

Tennis Serve Training Using Shadow Swings

The second drill is to take an old racket and practice your service motion without a ball. However, instead of holding on to it after contact, go ahead and throw to your intended target at the opposite service box. The service motion is akin to a throwing motion. The only difference, obviously, is that you don’t actually throw the racket.

Tennis serve training is all about practice, practice and practice. There is simply no secret to developing a better serve other than to constantly practice it. However, there are some exercises that can be done in order to make your service motion smoother, more efficient and capable of producing more power.

Tennis Serve Training Exercises

These exercises should be incorporated into your general off court training routine. You can consider them as part of your tennis serve training regimen, but they are actually useful for all other strokes as well. These exercises are the following:

Tennis Serve Training Exercises For the wrist:

Grips

Wrist curls

Wrist extensions

Forearm supination and pronation

Tennis Serve Training Exercises For the arm:

Bicep curls

Overhead tricep extensions

Tennis Serve Training Exercises For the shoulder:

Overhead shoulder presses

Lateral shoulder raises

External rotations

Internal rotations

Tennis Serve Training Exercise For the chest and upper body:

Bench presses

Cross over cable pulls

Overhead medicine ball throw or slams to the ground

Side medicine ball throws

Over the back medicine ball throws

Tennis Serve Training Exercise For the core:

Twisting crunches

Standing trunk twists with medicine ball

Back extensions on stability ball

Tennis Serve Training Exercise For the legs:

Squats

Split squats

Leg presses

Lunges

Side lunges

Calf raises

Squat jumps – this is a more advanced exercise used to develop greater power and should only be performed if the player already has a good foundation of lower body strength

Squat thrusts

Barbell powerlifting exercises – also an advanced exercise for developing power.

Aside from strength, the service motion requires a flexible body. You should stretch your shoulders, wrists, arms (especially the triceps), and the trunk with twisting and bending stretches. Stretching is also a key to preventing injuries.

Tennis Serve Training to Develop an Efficient Serve Motion

Tightness in any joint or muscle group will compromise the efficiency of your service motion and result in hitches in the swing. These may start as small problems but gradually lead to bigger problems that can eventually break down your technique. Small injuries may develop into major ones if no proper strength and flexibility training is done.

Improving your serve also helps you to become mentally tougher, knowing that you can rely on this shot under pressure. The serve might just be your key to improving overall as a tennis player.

The tennis serve is one of the most complex tennis strokes. The serve in tennis has many elements that can be difficult to master for tennis players at all levels. It requires a sound understanding of how to serve in tennis along with the tennis technique and principles necessary to master the tennis serve. Tennis serve tips can allow a player to understand the basic tennis serve as well as incorporate the proper tennis serve technique.

Tennis Serve Tips – Guideposts to the Tennis Serve

Tennis serve tips are meant to help tennis player improve the tennis serve, and may take form in tennis instruction. These tennis serve tips are meant to be guides and specific advice relating to the tennis serve technique. A tennis serve tip alone may not be enough without the proper practice and refinement. A great tennis serve takes hours of practice to achieve true mastery.

Tennis serve tip 1

The most important tennis serve tip is to use the proper grip for the tennis serve. The continental grip is the ideal tennis grip for the serve, as it allows a tennis player to properly pronate and generate the maximum power and topspin on the serve. Virtually every professional tennis player uses a continental grip. This tennis serve tip is important for achieving great success and reaching higher levels of play.

Tennis serve Tips : The Tennis Serve

We see tennis players like Roger Federer and Nadal, who use their tennis forehand to their advantage and the forehand shot is one of their main weapons. A tennis player must believe that this is so for their very own forehand to blossom.

Tennis serve tip 2

Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect. This tennis serve tip is one of the most overlooked but nonetheless critical. A tennis player must practice using the correct tennis serve technique. Simple practicing with poor tennis technique will do nothing but ingrain bad habits deeper into the muscle memory.

Tennis serve tip 3

A great tennis serve tip is what I call target practice. The tennis serve must be constantly practiced and refined to maintain the precision and power. Tennis serve tips only benefit a tennis player if it is properly integrated in practice sessions. A rifleman would not expect to have perfect aim without engaging in target practice on the field. The same is true for the tennis serve. Put out cones in the service box and practice hitting specific targets on the court. This will pay dividends when it comes time to perform the tennis serve under pressure, and you can place the tennis serve into the location of your choice.

Tennis Serve Tip 4

A essential tennis serve tip is to develop a natural and fluid tennis serve that flows seamlessly from the beginning to the end. Develop a personal ritual prior to the tennis serve, and stay consistent with this ritual. Work on developing a consistent tennis serve with the least amount of variables. An efficient tennis serve will not break down under pressure. Eliminating unnecessary motion on the serve and focusing on the fundamentals in the tennis serve technique will allow the tennis serve to develop and grow into a powerful weapon. This tennis serve tip is the basic quality of all great tennis serves. An effective tennis serve is a product of the tennis serve technique.

Tennis Serve Tip 5

In order to master the tennis serve, a few key components must be mastered. My fifth tennis serve tip is on the serve tennis technique. The most important of all is the tennis serve technique. The tennis serve technique is key in allowing the player to maximize the power, spin and acceleration on the serve. Only a fluid, adaptable and explosive tennis serve motion will allow a great tennis serve to emerge.

Watch Johannson’s Tennis Serve above and notice how fluid and relaxed his tennis serve is. His tennis serve technique allows him to power up the serve on contact and hit the most accurate placements. The majority of the acceleration does not take place until the last few moments prior to contact. He does not abruptly take a big swing, instead he waits and loads the power utilizing the entire body. The explosion happens at the last second, the last part being the racket. All of that energy is then transferred in seconds like a rocket ship taking off NASA. It’s like a race car taking off a tunnel at full speed going from zero to sixty miles per hour in seconds.

Tennis serve tips are useful in tennis instruction as an aid to help tennis players learn how to serve in tennis as well as the tennis serve technique. A tennis serve tip can substantially fix the tennis serve provided the tennis serve tips are accurate.
